Pre-Production Process

After removing the fat and minerals from the raw materials, there are two pre-treatment methods, depending on the raw material and the intended use of the gelatin:

Alkaline process:

Animal bones and hides are thoroughly soaked in lime milk, neutralised with hydrochloric acid and washed with water, then extracted at 60°C-70°C, followed by filtration, concentration, sterilisation and drying. The finished product is called Type B gelatin, or alkaline-process gelatin.

Acid process:

The raw materials are acidified in cold sulphuric acid at a pH of 1-3 for 2-8 h, then rinsed and soaked in water for 24 h, extracted at 50°C-70°C, and finally filtered, concentrated, sterilised and dried. The finished product is called Type A gelatin, or acid-process gelatin.

Production Process

Extraction

The pre-treated raw materials are mixed with hot water and then hydrolysed and cooked to extract the gelatin in a controlled sequence. Water temperature and the degree of fat separation are very important technical controls during extraction.
Purification

Insoluble impurities are removed from the gelatin solution in our efficient, durable filtration equipment, and soluble salts are removed from the solution by ion exchange.
Concentration

High-performance concentration and evaporation equipment is used to concentrate and thicken the gelatin solution.
Drying

Under strictly controlled sterile conditions, these gelatin solutions undergo high-temperature sterilisation, freeze extrusion, long-net drying and grinding to obtain semi-finished gelatin. The ZGL laboratory effectively controls the entire process to ensure the quality and purity of the product.
